What Does "Discovering" Mean to Me?

What Does ‘Discovery’ Mean?
Discovery means finding something you have never found before. Also, discovery is when you learn new things. In my picture, I was digging up a dinosaur bone. I was happy when I found it. Also discovering treasures is about having fun. This is what discovery means to me.

What Makes an Effective Professional Arcade Game? The professional arcade game that I chose to research is Highway Race. The object of the game is to beat all ten levels in Highway Race. The way to win the game is to move the car with the arrow keys, being sure you do not crash. If you crash, you will die, and you will have to start all over again. After that, we have cars blocking the highway so you might crash and lose the game. If you pass that level, the course will change and so the game will be much harder than before. Then you keep changing the course until you beat all of the ten levels. The company that supports this game is Camadro, Inc. The instructions are at the front of the screen. I think out of 1-4 rating that this game is a three.

To build this game I think it will cost $115; to buy this game it will cost $500. The way to create the game is you need to have Hot Wheels [cars], a plastic road and a finish line.

If you want to play this game you will have to go to this URL address:

Design Brief
What is the Concept Design of My Crusie Arcade Game?
The name of the game that we are building is called Fireball. We will list the instructions on the front of the game. In a star rating from 1 to 4, our game would be a 2. To win the game you have to make the football go inside the hole. If you win the game you will get tickets. We are using a cardboard box and putting holes in it. On the top of the box we drew the name of the game.

Let us describe our blueprint, the front, top and side views. The front view has the sign of our game on the top and the holes to throw the footballs into. The top has the sign of our game. At the side you can see the Polly spots.

To build this game the tools you have to use are cardboard, tape and scissors. We also need Polly spots and pencils. More things that we need are markers and footballs. I think it would take about 5 days to make it. Maybe when we tape the game it might fall off. The sign that goes on the top might fall off.

What were the Results of Testing Our Game?
Examiner: Mrs. Witter

Praise: I like your games level of difficulty so younger gamers can stand closer and use smaller or bigger footballs. Older gamers can challenge themselves too! Your prediction written on Wiki was true!

Question: What word could you add to the numbers by each hole to indicate how many tickets do you get for getting it in to the hole?

Polish: Could you add a line to your directions explaining that tickets are 3 throws and free passes are 4 throws?

Student Comment: We tried to make the game, Fire Ball, hard so people would come back and try beating their score. We gave them the number of tickets that we put on the board on top of the hole. When the ball goes through the hole, the players get those tickets. We now have those instructions.
Examiner: Mr. Holgate

Praise: Very simple and effect game. A fun game for the kids who especially enjoy sports.

Question: Could you have a leader board to increase people to beat other people’s records? If you do could you have different records for different balls?

Polish: Maybe add some more color and directions. Seriously consider the leader board. And better prizes.

Student Comment: Jack and I did the game Fire Ball because we thought it would be fun throwing the ball around to get them in the holes. We tried to add a leader board and it got confusing. We tried once and messed-up. I did it wrong so we choose not to do it again. We tried adding color but since the board was brown it did not pop out.

Examiner: Mr. Keenan

Praise: I love the use of accuracy - proper throw method. The rewarding of tickets is a great idea. What a great way to dispense your game. A very kid-friendly feel to the game. What an amazing job.

Question: What are the Polly spots for?

Polish: Crowd control.

Student Comment: Jack and I did the best we could in designing our game, Fire Ball. You could challenge yourself with the game. Sometimes it gets crowded so we tell them to make a straight line. That is how we try to control them.

Make It Better

Reflection on Project

What can we do to improve our Arcade Creation?

If we had toys for prizes instead of tickets.

Specifically, how would we do this?

We will go to a store to get the toys for the gamers.

Reflection on Process

What did you learn to do with the Crusie Arcade Project?

I learned how to work with people and build an arcade out of a cardboard box.

What do you know now that you didn’t know before doing the Project?

That it is not easy to make an arcade out of a cardboard box.

What can you do now that you could not before doing this project?

Make an arcade game.

What did you like about the project that helped your learning?

To work together and not take over.

What could have been done differently to help your learning?

We could have built a leader-board.

A Final Reflection:

What we could have done to make our arcade game better is get toys for the prizes instead of tickets for our game, Fire Ball. We could go to the store to get toys for the gamers. I learned how to work with people and build an arcade out of a cardboard box. I found out that it is not easy to build an arcade game out of a cardboard box. I found out how to design an arcade game. I like to work together and not take over. We could have also built a leader board.
